Travel through the beautiful Arrábida Mountains, and arriving in Setúbal we suggest a stop for lunch and a visit the Fort of St. Philip. We continue towards Palmela to visit Palmela Castle, ending the tour crossing Vasco da Gama Bridge, enjoying the view of the Tagus River.
AZEITÃO
In Vila Fresca de Azeitão, known for its excellent wine produced by José Maria da Fonseca, which produces the wine "Periquita" and the famous Moscatel de Setúbal you will have the opportunity to discover their production method, with a wine tasting. This village is also sought by St. Simão tiles produced in the traditional way and hand-painted, where we will have a brief description of the clay moulding process and its painting. To end in a "sweet" way this visit tastes an Azeitão roll (egg cream-filled rolls), a typical sweet of the region.

The manor house José Maria da Fonseca, a family business with almost two centuries of history was founded in 1834 and is the oldest Portuguese company producing table wines and Moscatel of Setúbal. António Soares Franco belongs to the sixth generation of the Soares Franco family, owners of the company for more than 170 years. Brazil was early on one of the main destinations of these wines.

In addition to the famous Azeitão rolls, a typical sweet made with an egg base with a light taste of lemon and cinnamon can still delight us and discover another representative product of the region, the traditional and famous Azeitão cheese, made from sheep's milk, very appreciated for its unique taste.
ARRÁBIDA
In Arrábida you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful Tróia Península, the long stretch of sand that spreads through the Sado Estuary. The Mountain is protected by its diversity of fauna and flora and by its famous beach of fine white sand with clear and bright waters, Figueirinha’s Beach in Portinho of Arrábida. On the slopes of the Mountain, we can find the former franciscan monastery, the Convent of Our Lady of Arrábida.

In the heart of the Arrábida Mountains Natural Park, we arrive at Figueirinha`s Beach, with a unique natural beauty. It is a beach much appreciated by families with a calm sea and a long sandbar ideal for children emerges at low tide. Near this beach, there is a wooded area mainly frequented for picnics in Summer. You can also admire stunning views over Tróia and Portinho of Arrábida.
SETÚBAL
Setúbal was born from the river and the sea and exists since the time of the Romans; we can find numerous traces since the Neolithic period and the Phoenician and Greek civilisations. It is fishing port and an industrial area where we can visit the Fort of St. Philip and enjoy a tasty lunch with the typical gastronomy of the city, fresh fish, seafood or traditional fried cuttlefish. It is connected to Tróia by sea and this trip lasts about 30 minutes.

The Castle of St. Philip often referred to as Fort or Fortress dating back to the 17th century played a tactical role of strengthening the defence line of the Portuguese coast, ravaged by pirates from Northern Europe and Africa. It currently works as a Guesthouse with a tile coated baroque chapel dated 1736. From the walls of the Fort, you have one of the most privileged panoramic views of the city and the bay.
PALMELA
The city of Palmela dates back to the Roman period, having conquered by D. Afonso Henriques from the Moors in 1147. We highlight as major monuments the Palmela Guesthouse and its imposing Castle, built in the 9th century, located 240 meters above sea level, where on clear days you can see Lisbon.

This castle has a magnificent view over the plain of the Tagus and Sado estuary, as well as, the Arrábida Mountains. Raised by the Moors, was donated to the Order of Santiago who settled here permanently in 1210. To the west of the castle, there is the former convent, built in 1423. Part of the building houses one of the most beautiful guesthouses in Portugal.
