GUIMARÃES
Guimarães is one of the most important historical cities of the country, considered the birthplace of the Portuguese nation and was the capital of the County of Portugal. Some say that the first King of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques was born there. Here took place, in 1128, some of the major political and military events that would lead to independence and the birth of a new nation.

The Palace of the Dukes of Bragança was built in the 15th century, in Guimarães, by D. Afonso, the 1st Duke of Bragança. The Burgundian style of the Palace reflects the tastes of Afonso that he purchased travelling through Europe, even though the current aspect has been recreated, in a controversial manner, during the New State.

The imposing Castle of Guimarães, with it's magnificent and majestic walls, a symbol of the city is connected to the Foundation of the County of Portugal, and the battles for independence from Portugal. For this reason, in one of the towers of the old city wall is inscribed "Portugal was born".
BRAGA
Braga is considered the capital of the region of Minho and is one of the most religious cities in Portugal. It was founded by the Romans as Bracara Augusta in the year 27 BC, as the capital of the Gallaecia formed by Galicia and the province of Minho. In 716, the Moors caused great destruction in the city, due to its religious importance, being rebuilt and reorganised in the 11th century.

The Sanctuary of the Good Jesus, of Catholic origin, dates back to the early 14th century and is a set-landscape architectural integrated by a church, with a long staircase that leads to the top of the Church surrounded by beautiful gardens. In this climb, there are five flights of stairs, interleaved by levels with allegorical sources that appeal to the five senses, in the following order, "Vision", "Hearing", "Smell", "Palate" and "Tact".

The Cathedral is the oldest of Portugal; the episcopal church built in the 11th century under the initiative of the Bishop D. Pedro, on the remains of a large Roman building and another of the high middle ages. Considered as a centre of episcopal irradiation and one of the most important Romanesque temples in the country, here remain the tombs of Henry of Burgundy, Count of Portugal and his wife, Teresa of León, parents of D. Afonso Henriques.
