TOMAR
The City of Tomar, known as the City of the Templars, was conquered from the Moors in the middle of the 12th century, by D. Afonso Henriques and donated to the Knights Templars. Dom Gualdim Pais, Great Master of the order, began in 1160 the construction of the Castle and Monastery that would come to be the headquarters of the Templars in Portugal. Later, in 1314, during the reign of King D. Dinis, the Order of the Templars was abolished, and the New Order of Christ was created. Prince D. Henrique, known as "Henry the Navigator", was later designated Governor of the Order and from then on, the cross of the Order of Christ was painted in the sails of the caravels that departed for the Atlantic and Africa expeditions.

The Convent of Christ founded in 1162 is surrounded by the walls of the Castle of Tomar and the woods of the fence. During the reign of Prince Henry "the Navigator", the cloisters between the Cloister and the fortress of the Knights Templar were built. It features several traces of Romanesque, Gothic and Manueline architecture, among others, the window of the Chapter of pure Manueline style, the Gothic cloisters and the Cloister (oratory of the Templars) inspired by the Temple of Jerusalem.

The Castle of Tomar was founded in the 12th century with the purpose of consolidating ownership of the territories reconquered to the Moors. It later became the headquarters for the Order of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Henry the Navigator was one of the residents of the Castle of Tomar, acting as the Governor of the Order of Christ.
FÁTIMA
Fátima caught the media attention in 1917 with the first appearance of Our Lady of Fátima to three shepherd children, Francisco, Jacinta and Lucia, in Irene´s Cove where currently the Chapel of the Apparitions is located. The apparitions took place every 13th day from May until October. Our Lady showed them the secret of Fátima divided into three parts. First, is the vision of hell where sinners travelled without faith, second is the announcement of the beginning of a World War, the Second World War and the third secret revealed on May 13, 2000, by Pope John Paul II that consisted in the attempt on the life of the Pope himself.

The Sanctuary of Fátima is composed by the Chapel of the Apparitions, the Our Lady of Fátima Church and the Church of the Holy Trinity. It also comprises the Chapel of the Lausperene where the Holy Body of Christ in the Consecrated Host is permanently exposed and the Chapel of Reconciliation, dedicated to the celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The construction of the Chapel of the Apparitions began in 1919. The pedestal, with the image of Our Lady, marks the exact spot on which Our Lady appeared to the shepherds on May 13 in the little holm oak.

The Church of the Holy Trinity opened on 12 October 2007 and is the fourth largest Catholic Temple in the world with more capacity. It features a circular shape on the outside and inside features a square shape, with 12 side doors, one dedicated to each of the Apostles and a large central door, the Door of Christ.

The Shepherds' House is located in Valinhos, three miles from the Sanctuary, and was the site of the fourth apparition of Our Lady, on 19 August 1917. You can visit the houses and their interiors, especially Sister Lucia's House where you can observe the shepherds' pit located in the yard of this residence. This is where the "Angel of Peace" appeared for the second time in the summer of 1916.
